    DON BOSCO COLLEGE – GOLAGHAT HOSTED 10 DAYS CATC -77

    Ten days Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) – 77 was hosted by Don Bosco College, Golaghat for both (Boys and Gils) NCC cadets from 18th August to 28th August, 2024. Total of 400 cadets and 200 college students participated in the camp from different colleges, schools and universities under Golgahat district, Jorhat district and other districts of Assam, India. The camp was organised by 74 Assam Girls (I) coy NCC under Jorhat Group in collaboration with Don Bosco College, Golaghat. On the first day of the camp the group commander of Jorhat group Brig. Ritesh Bhal was welcomed with Guard of Honour by the NCC Cadets. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, Principal, JCO, GCI, ANOs, CTOs, college staff and PI staff of the NCC Units along with cadets invited guests and Salesians.

    In the camp the cadets are taught various activities related to NCC namely drill, firing, map reading, martial arts. Games and other events are also organised for the cadets to boost their energy and to remain active and fit for all times. For the first time 142 CRPF Battalion Golaghat displayed various arms and ammunitions among the cadets and college students to make them aware about the uses of arms and rifles during the emergency situation. Along with these all the ACS, the Police Superintendent Ms. Mousumi Chakroborty of Golaght was invited as guest lecture on crimes against women and cyber-crimes in the digital age. She highlighted how women and girls need to protect themselves against all crimes and various measures taken against the people who commit crimes related to women.  

    Mr. Shifu Nekibur Rahman from international Shaolin and kick boxing association was invited to demonstrate on Martial Arts and how cadets can be self-independent in defending oneself and to be physically strong. In the camp the cadets were trained on fire fighting, Mushroom Farming and commercial Plantation, tree plantation, Poultry Farming etc. Don Bosco Tech Society of Golaghat Unit and Doctors from Civil Hospital took many guest lectures on livelihood and income generating activities, first aids, etc. On the last day of the camp the cultural program, solemn social meal sharing, networking, prize distribution, and valedictory functions and other activities were organized.  During the valedictory function, Don Bosco College – Golaghat cadet U/O Ankiel Tirkey got the first prize in drill Commanding and Firing among other prize winners of many colleges.  

    It was the first time that Don Bosco College hosted the mega ten days NCC Camp in the college premises. Lt. Col. A. Jaynata of 74 Assam Girls (I) coy NCC expressed gratitude to Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, the Principal of Don Bosco College, and the management for making all the necessary arrangements for the grand successful camp and for providing wonderful opportunity for young people to learn and to discipline for their better future in the college premises. The principal in his address to 600 young people, staff, and trainers inspired them to be committed in the field for the development of better society, and exhorted to be a good citizen. He also appreciated the CTO Arpita Dowarah of NCC girls and CTO John Kisku of NCC Boys and all the NCC Cadets of Don Bosco college for their hard work and dedication with Lt. Col. A. Jaynata.  The camp was concluded with patriotic spirit and national anthem.

    On August 17, 2024, Don Bosco College Golaghat held its student union election. The event was meticulously organized and overseen by the Vice Principal, Fr. Alai. The Principal of Don Bosco College, Golaghat, Dr. Fr. Amaladoss delivered a speech congratulating all the candidates for their participation. The Principal emphasized the importance of leadership, responsibility, and the role of the student council in fostering a positive and inclusive college environment. He encouraged the newly elected members to work diligently for the welfare of the student community and uphold the values of the institution.

    The election was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with Mrs. Nazia Rahman, Miss Alankrita Borthakur, Sir John Kisku, and Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul overseeing the process. Their impartial supervision ensured that the election was carried out without any biases. A total of 144 students participated in the election, casting their votes for various leadership positions within the student body. The Result of the election is as follows:

    • Omi Bikash Indwar: 76 votes
    • Chinghgaihlian: 26 votes

    2. Vice President:

    • Ashish Indwar: 133 votes

    • Barico Hanse: 77 votes
    • Rushma Toppo: 70 votes

    4. Assistant General Secretary:

    • Sonali Urang: 96 votes
    • Nowdong Jamekhiem: 39 votes

    5. Treasurer:

    • Emilda Jate: 80 votes
    • Urmila Tigga: 34 votes
    • Urmila Tirkey: 1 vote

    Following the election, the student forum for the academic year 2024-2025 was finalized with the following individuals elected to key positions:

    • Assistant General Secretary: Sonali Urang
    • Treasurer: Emilda Jate

    The newly elected student representatives are expected to uphold the values of Don Bosco College and contribute positively to the campus community.

    Report on Fresher’s Day Programme Organized on 14th August, 2024 at Don Bosco College, Golaghat

     On August 14, 2024, a Fresher’s Day programme was held at Don Bosco College, Golaghat, to welcome the new batch of first-year students for 2024. The programme was organized by the Cultural Club along with the senior students of the college. Freshers were welcomed to the college auditorium with the playing of drums and a dance performance.

    The programme commenced promptly at 9:45 AM. The Chief Guests for the function were Rev. Fr. Joseph Pampackal, Provincial of Dimapur Province; Rev. Fr. Kamil Horo, Rector of Don Bosco College, Golaghat; and Rev. Fr. Thomas. The event was hosted by Sr. Nittu Roy and Sabwang Kitnya, both students from the English Department.

    The ceremony began with the felicitation of the Chief Guests. This was followed by an introduction of Rev. Fr. Joseph Pampackal, presented by Andhrias Surin, a student of BA 5th Semester, Department of Political Science. Next, there was a prayer dance performed by the students of BA 3rd Semester. Fr. Rector Kamil Horo recited a prayer, and the lamp was lit by the Chief Guests, including Fr. Dr. A. Amaladoss, Principal and Director of Research, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology; Fr. Vice-Principal Alayee Pius; and Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul, Vice-Principal Academics, H.O.D., and Assistant Professor, Department of Education.

    The programme continued with insightful and enriching speeches delivered by Fr. Principal Dr. A. Amaladoss and Fr. Provincial Joseph Pampackal. Both a senior student and a fresher also delivered speeches.

    A variety of activities were performed by the students, including group songs, solo performances, group dances, and a magic display. First-semester students were given the opportunity to introduce themselves on stage. Additionally, a Fresher’s competition was held, consisting of several rounds to assess participants’ performances. Alex Kamei from BA 1st Semester, English Department, and Lainya Wangpan from BA 1st Semester, Political Science Department, were selected as Mr. Fresher and Miss Fresher, respectively.

    The programme concluded at 2:30 PM with a vote of thanks delivered by Savio Surin, a student of BA 3rd Semester, Department of Political Science.

    10.08.2024- The inaugural ceremony for the wall magazine of the Department of Political Science was held on August 10, 2024, at 9:10 AM in the College Assembly Hall. This year, the department chose the theme titled “Lok Sabha Elections 2024.”

    The program was hosted by Rushma Toppo, a student of BA 5th Semester, Department of Political Science. The chief guest for the event was Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, Principal and Director of Research, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Don Bosco College, Golaghat. The day was also marked by the gracious presence of Vice-Principal Fr. Alayee Pius, and Dr. Sister Sheela Paul, Vice-Principal Academics, Assistant Professor, and H.O.D., Department of Education.

    Rushma Toppo welcomed the guests, who were felicitated with traditional scarves. The wall magazine was inaugurated by Dr. Fr. Amaladoss, in the presence of Vice-Principal Fr. Alayee, Sister Sheela Paul, and the HOD of the Department of Political Science, Mrigakhi Goswami.

    Following the inauguration, Emilda Jate of BA 5th Semester, Department of Political Science, delivered a speech. The speech highlighted the theme of the magazine, “Lok Sabha Elections 2024,” which were conducted in India in seven phases over 44 days. The purpose of the wall magazine was to enlighten students about the various aspects of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections. The magazine covered different facets of the Lok Sabha elections, including the total number of electorates, candidates, political parties, types of election systems, and the functioning of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in conducting the elections of the world’s largest democracy. Dr. Fr. A. Amaladoss, the chief guest, graced the program with his valuable insights into electoral politics. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Savio Surin, a student of BA 3rd Semester, Department of Political Science.

    On 6th August 2024, an orientation program was organised for the 1st semester students. Itwas oriented by the HoDs’ of English and Education department, Nazia Rahman and Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul. The orientation was to make them aware of the various subjects under NEP. At the same day the students were also divided for the Minor, Generic, AEC, and SEC paper. The orientation started at 9am and ended at 11am.

    In a solemn ceremony that reverberated with pride and a sense of responsibility , the Don Bosco College Golaghat NCC conducted a piping ceremony to confer rank to its cadets on 22ND June 2024 .

    Lt. Col . A JAYANTA , Commanding officer of 74 Assam Girls  (I) Coy , Hawaldar Manoranjan Sinha , 74 Assam Girls (I)  Coy , Hawaldar J. R Bhonsle 12 Assam Boys (I) Coy NCC, were the invited guest to grace the ceremony.

    Fr. Dr A. Amaladoss , principal welcomed the gathering conveying his gratitude  to the cadets for their dedication and commitment to the NCC . He also acknowledged the continuous support of both 12 Assam Boys (I) Coy and 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy Golaghat unit in transforming  cadets by molding them to be future leaders .

      The dignitaries along with Principal , Vice Principal , CTO’s  administered the honorary ranks to 20 boys and girls cadets . Anikel Tirkey was conferred rank of Senior Under Officer , Andhrias Surin and Nishita Rani Boro as Under Officer and John Jose kerketta and Berthila Induwar as Sergeant.  The other cadets were awarded rank of Corporal and Lance Corporal. In his congratulatory message Lt. Col. A Jayanta inspired the cadets to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams . He also stressed that along with receiving rank their responsibility

    has increased .  He urged the cadets to dream big , carry organizational values beyond campus making an impact on the communities they would be part of .

    The ceremony concluded with vote of thanks proposed by NCC cadet Rushma Toppo which was followed by NCC song.

  • One Day Workshop on Research Methodology for Undergraduate Students

    Department of Education, Don Bosco College Golaghat under the MoU with Department of Education, D.R College, Golaghat conducted a one day Workshop on “Research Methodology for Undergraduate Students” on 6th March 2024 at DBCG, conference. The workshop was started with welcome speech and overview of the objective of the workshop by Ms. Daisy Gogoi, Asst. Professor. Dr. Chitra Devi, HoD, Department of Education, Debraj Roy College, Golaghat and Ms. Rajashree Dutta, Asst. Professor, D.R.College led the Workshop and gave a fruitful delivery on the topics.Students from various colleges including DBCG, D.R. College,  and Furkating College were joined for the programme.The entire participants were highly impressed with the presentation. The programme came to an end by the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sheela Paul , HoD, Vice Principal academics

    State level Students Seminar on “Technology Integration in Education: Evaluating the Role of the NEP 2020 in promoting Digital Literacy.” Department of Education, Don Bosco College Golaghat under the MoU with Department of Education, D.R College, Golaghat conducted a State level Students Seminar on “Technology Integration in Education: Evaluating the Role of the NEP 2020 in promoting Digital Literacy.”on 8th April 2024 at DBCG, conference hall. The seminar was started with a welcome speech and overview of the objective of the seminar and theme by Ms. Daisy Gogoi,Convenor of Seminar .The seminar  was led with two technical sessions with students’ paper presentation.Dr. Monisha Chaliha, Associate Professor Department of Education, Debraj Roy College, Golaghat and Dr. Amaladoss, Director of Research  led the seminar and gave a fruitful delivery on the topics.Three technical sessions had been taken by Dr. Sheela Paul, Vice Principal, Don Bosco College Golaghat, Dr. Monisha Chaliha, Resource Person and Dr. Amaladoss, Resource Person respectively. Students from various colleges including DBCG, D.R. Colleges were joined for the programme.The entire participants were highly impressed with the presentation. The programme came to an end by the vote of thanks delivered by Gouravi Rajkhowa, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Education and report presented by the convenor, also distribution of the certificates
