    A three day retreat was organised from 18th – 20th of August 2023 at St. Teressa Church of Don Bosco Golaghat. The theme of the program was “Arise and Shine”. There were two renowned dignitaries as resource persons for the retreat. All the students including faculty of the college were invited for the retreat especially the Catholic students and staff. It began from 8.45 AM on the 18th August in the Church. After the inaugural session there was a keynote address followed by a short break of fifteen minutes. The second session started at 11.45 am with the discussion on “My Dreams vs God’s Dreams”. The third session began at 2pm with a discussion on “Embrace your Uniqueness’’.

    The Evening session began at 6pm and came to an end at 8pm with a question and answer round. In the same vein the second day of the retreat also proceeded accordingly.

    Celebration of 77th Independence Day15th August 2023

    India’s 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Don Bosco College Golaghat on 15th of August. This event was organised by NCC and NSS students under the guidance of Miss Arpita Dowarah, CTO 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC, Golaghat and Miss Shibani Topno, NSS in-charge. The chief guest of this event was Rector Fr. Joseph Kindo who hoisted the flag at 8 am followed by the National Anthem. A small program was organised which was hosted by Sonu Tudu, a student from 5th semester, Department of English. Patriotic dance, Patriotic song, and Patriotic speech was performed and delivered by the students. The program ended at 9 am with a vote of thanks followed by distributing sweets to students and a cup of tea to teachers.

    14.08.2023: An essay-writing competition to celebrate forthcoming 77th Independence Day of India was organized on 14th August 2023, by the Department of Political Science, at Don Bosco College, Golaghat.  The maximum participant from each department for the competition was to be five.  The competition began sharply at 1.15 p.m.  The students were provided with eight of the topics to choose any one of the topic for the competition. A total number of 20 students participated in the competition. The competition came to an end by 2.05 p.m.

    Report on Fresher’s Meet, 2023

    The students of Don Bosco College, Golaghat i.e, 3rd semester and 5th semester organized a fresher’s meet on 12th August (Saturday) to welcome the batch of 2023. The purpose of Fresher’s Meet was to make every student feel connected as an integral part of the Don Bosco College, Golaghat family and be ready to take on challenges of the year ahead.

    The fresher’s meet started in the morning at 9:am and ended around 1:pm. The event began with the lightning of the lamp by the Principal, Fr. Dr. Policarp Xalxo, Vice Principal, Sr. Dr. Sheela Paul, HoDs of the five departments and President of Student forum. Every student was given opportunity to introduce themselves on the stage during the program. There were a total number of seventeen participants with three rounds. Each round, the participants were eliminated on the basis of their performance. Gisella Tissopi of BA 1st semester from Education Department and Mukrang Bey of BA 1st semester from Political Science Department were selected as Mr Fresher and Miss Fresher respectively.

    The honour of Mr Fresher and Miss Fresher were rewarded by the Principal Fr. Dr. Policarp Xalxo and Vice Principal Sr. Dr Sheela Paul of the institute. The Fresher’s Meet 2023 was a successful event.

  • STUDENT FORUM MEETING

    STUDENT FORUM MEETING

    On 8th August, 2023 each department elected their class leaders and department leaders. Each department has chosen two leaders; one leader and one vice leader. This group of students forms the student forum of 2023. A meeting was organised at 2pm for the student forum in the girl’s common room which was also attended by Principal Fr. Dr. Policarp Xalxo and Vice Principal Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul. The Principal asked all the students to vote for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Vice Secretary. By the help of tally the students that was selected for President is Gladson Tirkey, Priyanka Tirkey was voted to be the Vice President, Sanjiwan Minj as Secretary and Jyoti Tirkey as Vice Secretary. The meeting ended at 3 pm with a photo and with an agreement by the students to maintain the student forum with discipline and with respect. On 9th August, the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Vice Secretary were introduced in-front of all the students at the Assembly Hall by the Vice Principal Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul.

    8th August 2023: A short orientation program for the students willing to enrol themselves as NCC cadets was held today during the morning assembly.  CTO Bhaskar  Gohain presented powerpoint slides to the students an highlighted the various benefits of being a cadet and also  the employment benefits available to NCC cadets with ‘C ‘ certificate.

    2nd and 3rd August 2023

    This orientation program was held at Don Bosco College Golaghat on 2nd and 3rd of August under the initiative of DBYEST team from Dimapur. This programme was conducted especially for the first semester students of the College. The animators of the program were Fr. Peter Sawle, Fr.Romeo, Sir Paul, and Miss Claire.

    1st session-the first session started in a very energetic manner at 9.p.m. This session was animated by Fr. Peter on the topic “How to adapt in college environment”. Here he explained us very meticulously through the ppt on how we should try to coincide with the new environment and how we can be social towards the new friends we get. He also explained to us to do the right and appropriate things in the college and choose friend wisely.

    2nd session- this session was animated by Fr. Romeo on the topic “Carrier in life “. Here he talked about mainly 5 important things firstly why we should have a carrier and how we should go ahead in that line secondly we should respect the elders because they have experienced the world before us thirdly why we should choose a right partner in life because we will be spending our life with that person fourthly to eat healthy everyday because health is everything without we a good health we cannot participate in life actively and lastly

    3rd session- this session was animated by sir Paul on the topic “time management”. He mainly stressed on the point of procrastination which is one the diseases seen in the young people. He explained to us how this procrastination makes oneself put things for end moments and which results in chaos confusion and less productivity. He also enlightened us on how we can overcome this problem. For e.g: by practicing discipline, planning for the day, finishing the work at the earliest etc.   

    4th session – this was animated by miss Claire on the topic “Personality Development”. She explained us why this personality matters most because it is the outer view of a person’s behavior which reflects the complete image of a person. A person with good personality is respected by all likewise a person with bad personality is hated. She also stressed on the points like positive thinking ,being optimistic, being confident, being leader, selecting good over bad. 

    Session 5- Fr. Romeo animated this session at 1.30 pm on the topic “Why I am here”. Here he enlightened us on one thing that everyone is special and everyone has a special purpose to come in this world. This world cannot be beautiful with only one each one of us make this beautiful like the rainbow vibrant and colorful. For that never loss hope in oneself great things take time.

    Session 6–Fr. Peter animated this session at 2 pm discussing on the importance of communication skills in one’s life .HERE HE TOLD US HOW THIS COMMUNICATION SKILL helps to boost one’s self esteem and give confidence.  And he also discussed about the skills that are in demand in today’s world like leadership qualities, problem solving skill, time managing skills ,emotional skills etc.

    2nd day orientation

    Session 1-   Fr. Peter animated this session on the topic on “study tips to boost our productivity”

    He explained to us how we can priorities our study time table, why we should have a good environment for studying, how we can make schedule for our studies and follow them. And lastly he stressed on the point to be consistent with our time table.

    Session 2 – This session started at 10.am where  Fr. Romeo enlightened us on the topic “ Be part of the solution not problems”.  He told us why we should not focus on the problems because it worsens more and more rather we should study about the solution for that particular problem and be free from it. He also told us about some of the good qualities like not gossiping and grumbling, obey 1st before you complain, being a team player, not having a crab mentality.

    Session 3- this session starded at 11 am and was animated by sir Paul. He discussed about the toipic “Confidence Building”.  He enlightened us why this confidence is very crucial in one’s life. Because it gives wing  to present oneself in front of others in a esteemed manner. He also told us about nervousness how it present in everyone and how we can overcome it to gain confidence.

    Session 4- This session started at 12 pm and was animated by Miss Claire. Here she discussed about attitude development. She said attitude is said to define the personality of a person. She said this is important because the attitude of person toward anything define what kind of person he/she is . she also gave us some tips on how we can develop good attitude like writing a grateful journal, self love and self care, starting everything strong, avoiding gossip, choosing right mindset practicing gratitude seeing oneself as winner.

    Session 5- the last session started at 12:45 pm and was taken by Fr. Peter on the topic “risk taking”. In life if we always sit down in our comfort zone then we shall be like that frog who never came out of the well and experienced the world. Taking risk in life increases our self esteem in oneself. It helps us to know our capacity to experience toughness and teaches us to be self reliant in oneself. These were the points Fr. stressed on and helped each one of us to be motivated towards our new beginning.

    And lastly Savio Surin 1st sem. Political Department proposed the vote of thanks to the DBYEST team on behalf of the college and the first year students.

  • Commencement of Odd Semester Classes

    Commencement of Odd Semester Classes

    Tuesday, 1st August: After one month of summer vacation the odd semester classes for 2023 started today with the arrival of new students for the 1st semester. The Assembly started at 8.55 am with the Morning Prayer and news reading followed by a speech from the principal, Dr. Fr. Policarp Xalxo. He introduced the faculty members to the new students starting from the Directorate of Research, Dr. Fr. Amaladoss, Vice Principal, Dr. Sr. Sheela Paul, HoDs of the five department; Education, English, Sociology, Political Science and Commerce. The students are informed about various rules and regulations of the college. The 2nd and 3rd year classes are going as per the time table. The first year are given the overall knowledge a

    bout the college. On 2nd and 3rd August the first year will be attending their orientation program and the formal inauguration of this semester will be conducted on Monday, 7th August, 2023.

    Don Bosco College Golaghat Invites Research Contributions for Annual Multidisciplinary Journal on Human Rights and Human Dignity

    Golaghat, 16 June 2023: Don Bosco College Golaghat is delighted to announce the upcoming publication of its annual research journal with an ISSN, focusing on the theme of “Human Rights and Human Dignity.” The college aims to provide a platform for researchers, academicians, and practitioners to contribute original research articles in the field of social sciences.

    The journal invites unpublished and original case studies, book reviews, and research articles related to the theme and sub-themes. The sub-themes for the papers include “Human Rights here and now,” “Rights of Vulnerable Groups,” “Gender Equality as a new Human Right,” “Rights of Differently Abled Persons,” and many more.

    Interested individuals are cordially invited to contribute their research in their respective domains. Submissions can be sent to dramaladoss@gmail.com or pduttaoo@gmail.com. Upon submission, authors will receive a letter of acceptance or correspondence from the Chief Editor or Associate Editor of the Journal.

    The submission deadlines are as follows:

    • Abstract Submission: 20th July 2023 (Deadline: 30th August 2023)
    • Full Article Submission: 30th August 2023 (Deadline: 15th September 2023)

    The manuscripts can be submitted in either English or Assamese language. The article length should be a minimum of 4000 words and a maximum of 6000 words. There are no publication fees for main authors or corresponding authors.

    The journal follows the APA Referencing Style for citations and references. Depending on the quality of the articles and feedback from peer reviewers, the accepted papers will be published with either an ISSN or ISBN.

    Don Bosco College Golaghat looks forward to the participation and contributions from researchers in the field of social sciences. The publication of this journal aims to promote the understanding, discussion, and advancement of human rights and human dignity in society.
