On Sunday, 06th October 2024, St. Theresa Catholic Church Golaghat Parish celebrated its annual parish feast with an impressive display of faith, culture, and community unity. The event was graced by the presence of Rt. Rev. Bishop Albert Hemrom, Bishop of Dibrugarh Diocese, who presided over the Holy Eucharistic celebration and administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 55 candidates, including children and adults, who had been diligently prepared for two months through catechism and faith formation by Sr. Veronica, Sr. Ebrani, and the catechists.

The day began with a warm welcome for Bishop Hemrom from parish priest Fr. Kamil Horo and parishioners. The solemn Eucharistic Mass was attended by approximately 1,800 people, including religious sisters and priests from various congregations. This spiritually enriching Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Joy, Fr. Nazarius, Fr. Amaladoss, and others.

Following the Mass, refreshments were served to over 2,000 faithful, promoting fellowship among the community. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by captivating Adivasi cultural dances performed by local women.

A major highlight of the day was the football tournament organized by Fr. Dr. Amaladoss, the Youth Director of the Parish, in collaboration with the Parish Youth Executive Committee. The tournament featured teams from 34 villages, culminating in an exciting final match between Rangajan Circle and Borgaon Circle. Rt. Rev. Bishop Albert Hemrom blessed the players and officially kicked off the match, with nearly 600 spectators cheering on both teams. In the end, Rangajan Circle emerged victorious, claiming the championship title for the year. The winners were awarded trophies, medals, and cash prizes during the closing ceremony.

The successful execution of the day’s events was a testament to the collaboration and dedication of all involved, especially the catechists from the participating villages, led by head catechist Mr. Marianus. During the Thanksgiving ceremony, everyone who contributed to the success of the feast was acknowledged for their hard work and commitment.

The presence of Bishop Albert Hemrom throughout the day—whether during the Mass or the football match—was deeply appreciated by the parish community. This year’s parish feast of St. Theresa Catholic Church will be remembered as a day of spiritual renewal, cultural pride, and communal harmony, fostering a spirit of growth and collaboration for the future.

Debate Competition on ‘Relevance of Gandhi’s ideas on Peace in Contemporary Times1.10.2024- On 1^st of October 2024, an inter-departmental debate competition was organized by the Department of Political Science, at Don Bosco College, Golaghat.  The theme for the debate competition was – ‘Relevance of Gandhi’s ideas on Peace in Contemporary Times.’  Miss Gourangi Kaushik, Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Science introduced and welcomed the moderator, judges and participants for the debate. Before the commencement of the debate an inaugural speech on life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi was presented by Tingdan Wangsu, one of the student of B.A 3^rd semester, Department of Political Science.  Thereafter the Debate competition began sharply at 2.20 p.m onwards at the college auditorium. Fr. Alayee Pius, the Vice-Principal of the institution was the Chairperson for the debate competition. The judges for the competition were- the HODs of Education, English, and Sociology Department -Dr. Sister Sheela Paul, Nazia Rahman and Arpita Dowarah and Mukul Sharma, Assistant Professor Department of Commerce respectively. Two participants from each of the five departments participated in the competition.  The chief objective of the debate was to build an effective critical thinking, develop communication skills and to promote a sound debating exercise among the students on the issue and its relevance pertaining to the present day society. The team in favour of the motion through citing numerous illustrations deliberated their speech defending the topic. The team against the motion also effectively presented their points. The debate competition was a very informative and enriching one. The students actively participated in the debate and it promoted discussion among the listeners to think more inclusively about the topic. Among the audience, many of the spectators came forward to express their insights on the topic.  The debate competition came to an end by 3.30 p.m with a vote of thanks delivered by Rushma Toppo , of B.A 5^th semester, Department of Political Science.   In the debate competition, the best team was awarded to the team in favour of the motion.  Two of the participants Limka Bongrungpi of B.A 1^st semester, from the Department of Political Science and Gaithaongam Alex Kamei of B.A 1^st semester, Department of English   from the team in favour of the motion was awarded with the title of Best Speaker. Wangli Lowang of B.A 3^rd semester , Department of Political Science was awarded with the title of Best Debator in the Competition.

24^TH SEPTEMBER 2024: Don Bosco College organized an NSS orientation program for the newly enrolled NSS volunteers. The program began at  1:30 pm in the college conference  hall. The program aimed to familiarizing the NSS volunteers with the objectives activities and significance of the NSS  led by program officer Miss Marina Lakra .The session provided insight into the role of  NSS in both academic and extracurricular spheres, fostering a sense of community service and social responsibility among participants.

24 September 2024: Don Bosco College celebrated NSS day on 24^th September at the college assembly . Fr Amaladoss  the principal was the chief guest of the event .The program began sharp at 9:00 am with an introductory speech by NSS volunteer  Lainya Wangpan  of BA  1^st semester. It was then followed by presentation on NSS by NSS coordinator Miss Marina Lakra. The program further continued with the chief guest speech , where  he enlightens each and everyone to work for the development and wellbeing  of our community. The program ended with a mime presented by the NSS volunteers on the theme Green India Clean India

On 10th of September 2024 NSS unit of Don Bosco College Golaghat conducted a survey on   “ Youth not in formal education and regular employment.” The survey was done in the adopted village i.e. Rangajan 3No. District Golaghat.  NSS coordinator Miss Marina Lakra along with fourteen students went for the survey. A sum total of 69 forms filled out of 100. It was such a wonderful experience for the NSS volunteers.

Industrial Visit to Halmira Tea Factory

10/09/2024: Tea, the most ancient beverage mankind has been enjoying. Tea industry in Assam plays a useful part in the national economy. To understand the demand for tea for its aroma and quality and how the process unfolds in manufacturing, The department of Commerce of Don Bosco College golaghat visited Halmira Tea Factory. With a very enthusiastic team of Mr. Mukul Sarmah, Mr. Abhinav Todi and Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma accompanied by 51 students of B.A & B.COM 3^rd Semester along with B.com 5^th Semester students. The general Manager Mr. Girdhari Sharma permitted to enter the factory premises. And it was indeed a informative experience. Mr. P.K Pathak an employee accustomed the students regarding the process of tea manufacturing. They were given first hand information of the entire tea processing. They were given a tour of the factory and also got engaged with a very informative talk about different stages of tea processing like cutting, cleaning,shaping, fermentating etc everything was explained to them in a detailed manner. He talked about  the process of how tea leaves are made into dry CTC tea packaging. He narrated the complete manufacturing process to the students which was accompanied by the faculties. The tea factory is engaged in production process for around 100 years. The students were happy to learn about the process of tea manufacturing. And then students were engaged in questionnaire session .They wanted to deepened the knowledge regarding tea factories for which they had queries related to work environment, incentives, fringe benefits along with necessary qualification to work in the factory. After resolving students queries he also discussed about the problems faced by the factory in the whole process of tea manufacturing. In a nutshell, it was a great experience for the students as well as for the faculties. They were amused to know the process of tea manufacturing and looks forward for such experience again .\

Report on “ International Literacy Day-2024”

Education opens the windows of the mind. Every year, International Literacy Day is celebrated on September 8 to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. To spread the message about the importance of literacy among the learners, this year International Literacy Day (ILD) 2024 was celebrated under the theme “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding & Peace” . This day heralded an opportunity to rethink the fundamental importance of literacy learning spaces to build resilience and ensure quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all. To ensure inclusive growth, the Department of Education, Don Bosco college, Golaghat organized Inter College Essay Competition on “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding & Peace” to enrich and transform the existing learning spaces through an integrated approach and enable literacy learning in the perspective of lifelong learning and inclusive growth.The department organized prize distribution ceremony and inauguration of wall magazine” PRAJANA” at 1.30 pm at college assembly hall. The program started with a lecture on “Literacy for Inclusive Growth” by Ms. Daisy Gogoi, Asst. Professor. The principal of the college, Dr. A. Amoladoss inaugurated the wall magazine and addressed the audience as chief guest of the program. The department has selected the wall magazine theme for the session as “Literacy”. The program concluded with the prize distribution ceremony of the Inter College Essay Competition. Mushkan Begum(Furkating College), Ujjal Protim Bora(D.R.College), Florina Bagh and Gaithongum Alex Kamei(Don Bosco College, Golaghat) secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd(combined) respectively. The program successfully concluded with a vote of thanks.

An interdepartmental debate competition was organized by the department of English in collaboration with the department of Commerce at Don Bosco College, Golaghat, on 22^nd August 2024. Dr.Piyali Dutta, assistant professor department of Political Science moderated the program.The event brought together participants from various departments to deliberate on the compelling topic: “AI will lead to a loss of human creativity and innovation.” The competition aimed to foster critical thinking, enhance public speaking skills and encourage students to engage with contemporary issues shaping the future of society.The teams arguing in favor of the motion expressed concerns that AI’s increasing role in creative and innovative sectors could undermine human originality. They argued that AI’s reliance on data patterns lacks the emotional intelligence and unique perspective inherent in human creativity. They cautioned that AI might lead to the standardization of creative output, making art, literature, and other creative endeavors more predictable and less reflective of human experience.After a dynamic and insightful Debate the judges declared the team opposing the motion as the winners, as they presented a well-structured argument that AI does not threaten but rather enhances human creativity and innovation. They emphasized that AI serves as a tool that assists humans, expanding the potential for new ideas and artistic expressions. They highlighted instances where AI has been used to co-create artworks, compose music, and design innovative solutions proving that technology can amplify human creativity.The debate competition was a great success, providing students with a platform to engage with a relevant and thought-provoking issue. The event not only showcased the talents of the participants but also sparked important discussions on the role of AI in our rapidly changing world.In the inter-college debate completion, Alex Kamei was awarded the title of Best Debater, while Omi Bikash received the honor of Best Speaker. Both were recognized for their outstanding performances with certificates and trophies, making a remarkable achievement in their debating journey.
