The Department of Education, Don Bosco College, Golaghat, organised a Tribute Ceremony and Zubeen Divas on 19 September 2026 during the college assembly to pay homage to the late Zubeen Garg, the legendary singer, composer, actor, filmmaker, and cultural icon of Assam.
The programme began with the lighting of the earthen lamp by the Principal of the College and the Heads of all Departments, symbolising remembrance, respect, and the enduring light of Zubeen Garg's artistic and social contributions.
As part of the tribute, students of the Departments of Education and Sociology presented the popular Assamese song “DiyaGhurai Diya Prithibi Aamar Amak”, creating an atmosphere of remembrance and emotional reflection. The musical tribute highlighted the deep connection between Zubeen Garg's music and the cultural consciousness of the people of Assam.
A special speech on “Zubeen Garg's Contribution to Society” was delivered by Ms. Daisy Gogoi, HoD, Dept. of Education who highlighted his philosophy and immense contribution to Assamese music and culture and his influence on society through his artistic expressions, social concerns, and commitment to the people of Assam. The speech also reflected on his role as an artist who connected with people across generations and contributed significantly to the cultural identity of the state.
The programme also featured a soulful musical presentation by Ms. Piyali Dutta, assistant Professor Dept. of Education which added to the solemn and reflective spirit of the occasion.
The programme concluded with a message by Dr. A. Amaladoss, Principal, who paid tribute to Zubeen Garg and emphasised the importance of remembering his artistic legacy, values, and contribution to Assamese society. The Principal encouraged the students to appreciate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Assam and to draw inspiration from the life and work of the celebrated artist.
The Tribute Ceremony and Zubeen Divas was a meaningful initiative of the Department of Education that brought together students and members of the college community to remember and honour one of Assam's most influential cultural figures. The programme concluded with a sense of collective respect and remembrance for the enduring legacy of Zubeen Garg.
